Deeper Music

What are some of your favorite songs that have deeper meanings?

The song that immediately comes to mind is Sing About Me, I'm Dying of Thirst by: Kendrick Lamar. It's a beautiful work and makes me pray every single time I listen to it. It'll sound a bit weird at first but it's truly a life changing song in my opinion.

Mine is probably I Will Follow You into the Dark by Death Cab for Cutie.

One of my favorite songs is '39 by Queen. This particular song was written by Brian May, and it's about astronauts that travel to space for a few months (maybe a year) and when they returned they discovered that many decades have passed on Earth, and that many of the people they knew are old or have passed away..

This is a great topic, @Rxnin. There are two songs that come to mind for me.

River by Leon Bridges

This is such a powerful and heartfelt song. It fuses gospel and soul elements to explore themes of redemption, healing, and spiritual transformation.

I Gotta Find Peace of Mind by Lauryn Hill

A beautiful and very personal performance about relationships, healing, seeking peace within self and through faith. It was recorded during her live MTV Unplugged No 2.0 special.

@Rxnin Sing About Me, I'm Dying Of Thirst by Kendrick Lamar is one of my favorite tracks as well off of good kid, m.A.A.d city (Deluxe).

I remember listening to that album front to back when it first came out and then attending his concert in LA shortly after that. That album is really an experience.

Here are my choices:

Keep Ya Head Up by 2Pac

This is s an uplifting and socially conscious song that focuses on women’s struggles, respect, resilience, and hope. Released in 1993, the track is one of Tupac's most heartfelt messages, advocating for women and those facing hardships.

Man in the Mirror (2012 Remaster) by Michael Jackson

This is a powerful song about self-reflection, personal change, and social responsibility. Released in 1988 as part of his Bad album, the song carries a strong message about making the world a better place by first looking within oneself.

@Rxnin here is my favorite overall song. The meaning of the song in itself is true, but I will add that it has a deeper meaning to me because of how I lived my life, which caused me to lose the real perspective meaning of life and the value of those in my life. And no I will not elaborate on that any further.

Foolish Games (LP Version) by Jewel“Foolish Games” is a song based on Jewel’s love for a guy who does not notice or acknowledge the feelings she has for him. She gets caught up admiring every part of this guy only to be left with an unreciprocated love. The singer is the one who first notices and falls for him from afar, as she poetically details how cool he is. She is often disappointed in their interactions as she realizes that this guy is not interested in having a deep conversation with her, not to talk of a possible relationship. Tired of his failure to notice her love for him, she bares it out, stating that he’s breaking her heart with his actions and inactions.

Take care and GOD bless.

I'm sorry to hear about that. I do hope you are making the most of your life now. This song must've helped you through that rough patch.

@Rxnin thank you dear friend, but no worries this was a part of my life 17 years ago and I am much better now. The song will always remain my favorite, not so much because I want to, but as a daily reminder for me of how I was at the time, and how I lived ignoring the ones that loved me while I loved sports more than them. Jewel speaks of a guy, but for me it was a family that I lost because of what I loved more than them. I will "NEVER" affiliate myself with sports ever again, nor will I love anything that will steal my heart from what matters most. I will always have Foolish Games to remind me of that.

Have a great night. Take care and GOD bless...

P.S. Only love what matters, because not everything is worth your love.

Hi @Rxnin , there are many songs that have a deeper meaning and are really good songs.

I know many people look down on K-pop but they have many deep and  songs. Currently I'm thinking of
Nxde by G(i)-dle, which talks about how artists, and may also include influencers and people on social media in general, are always criticized and on a deep scrutiny by their peers and how even when they their image or way of living is criticized they also fetishize them and treat them like an object.

I've heard a lot of crappy stuff about the way people treat kpop artists in korea.
