Has anyone been experiencing any problems with Pandora while using Apple CarPlay after updating your iPhone to iOS 18?

So, to put it crassly - we are screwed, blued, and tattooed! So long to all the nice features such as 'shuffling' between genres in my collection. 😞

My pandora will play on CarPlay but when the individual station tries to load, after I select it, the music plays but I can’t see info on screen.   It says “There was a problem loading this content”.  I can see each song on the phone but not on CarPlay.

I updated late to IOS 18.1. Ever since, I have this issue and the issue with the error message popup. I’m using Pandora 2409.1.

Selecting the “My Collection” tab and switching back to Recent then displays the stations correctly.

Yes!  Very annoying. I can only play through my phone, which kind of defeats the purpose of using it in CarPlay. I checked for a Pandora update after I updated my iPhone 12 to the iOS 18 and it shows my app is up to date.

As of 11/21/24 I’m still experiencing this issue. Says this content could not be loaded. Did all the updates. Restarted my phone. And still not able to use it and see what’s playing.

I previously commented here I guess Pandora is considered a dying product by SiriusXM due its declining number of users since they bought Pandora in 2019 (at least per news articles that periodically pop up). If this is so, then it would be unreasonable to expect SiriusXM to pour resources into it to rewrite the code necessary to make it work with IOS 18. There are obviously still advertisers paying for the still existent adverting, but I would guess the advertising rates are directly related to the number of users. Therefore, maybe it can be expected, when the combination of advertising revenue and paying users drop below some threshold, Pandora will suddenly just disappear. That is why I am now trying to get used to Spotify. I would much prefer the good old Pandora, as I cannot seem to create a list of "stations" in Spotify I can easily display and switch between. However, this might very well be my unfamiliarity with it so we will see. The dilemma for me now is I like Pandora better than Spotify but the current issues with Pandora make it too big a pain in the butt to use so I find I am relying much more now on play lists I manually make and save on SD cards from my large (and legitimate) collection of MP3 files and CDs.

Very well, said. I am exploring Apple Music seeing. How is Apple CarPlay? It should be a seamless integration.

Pandora Update (11/22/2024):

We appreciate everyone's patience, and understand that these issues around Apple CarPlay have been frustrating and disruptive to your listening experience in the vehicle. Our engineering teams have been working diligently to resolve this for all impacted listeners.

We're happy to announce that Pandora version 2411.1 for iOS should resolve the following issues with CarPlay:

  • Listeners who experience trouble with stations loading in the Recent tab.
  • Listeners who experience an error message "There was a problem loading this content".
  • Listeners who experience loading issues with songs within a playlist.
  • Listeners who experience the screen not automatically transitioning to the Now Playing screen.

We recommend manually updating to the latest version (2411.1) of Pandora by visiting the Apple App Store on your iOS device and using the below steps to update.

How to manually update apps on your iPhone:

  • Open the App Store.
  • Tap the My Account button or your photo at the top of the screen.
  • Scroll down to see pending updates and release notes. Tap Update next to an app to update only that app, or tap Update All.

In some cases you may need to refresh the page in order to see the update. After updating to Pandora version 2411.1, please try Pandora with CarPlay again and let us know if you're still having trouble.

Please use your mobile device in your vehicle only when conditions allow and as permitted by applicable law.
